Chiclayo, Peru (AHN) - Archeologists have unearthed the ruins of an ancient buried city in northern Peru, near the coastal city of Chiclayo.

The city, which showed evidence of human sacrifice, could provide the missing link between the ancient cultures of two groups, the Wari people and the earlier Moche people, which died out about 600 AD.

Along with ceramics and clothing, researchers found the well-preserved remains of a young woman.

The Wari culture ruled the Andes between the 7th and 12th Century, but this would be the first evidence of those people found in northern Peru. All previous Wari culture remnants in Peru have been found in the southern part of the country.
