Fernie, BC (AHN) - Three people have been rescued but eight other snowmobilers are still missing after two avalanches in western Canada on Sunday afternoon.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police officials said the search would resume Monday for the missing men who are in their mid- to late 20s. The avalanches occurred near the town of Fernie in southeastern British Columbia.

Authorities will try to stabilize the slope because the danger of more avalanches is high. The first avalanche yesterday buried some members of the group. When others came to rescue them, they were buried under a second avalanche, officials said.

Two of the people were able to dig themselves and a third person out of the snow. They were hospitalized overnight with minor injuries.
