New York, NY (CNS) - Blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Walter Trout's The Outsider is nominated by The Blues Foundation and the Blues Music Awards for Rock Blues Album of the Year.

Trout's critically acclaimed 2008 release features 13 originals with the title track co-written with Trout's bass player Rick Knapp. The Jersey-born guitar master's album was produced by John Porter, famed for his work with B.B. King.

Trout's backing band on The Outsider includes drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp), bassist Hutch Hutchinson and pianist Jon Clearly (Bonnie Raitt), as well as Skip Edwards and Samuel Avila on the Hammond B3 and a special guest appearance by harmonica wiz Jason Ricci.

With over 500,000 records sold to date, the release was preceded by a North American tour beginning in April and culminating in August in Quebec.

The Blues Foundation music awards will take place May 7, 2009 at the Memphis Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis.
