New York, NY (CNS) - Dr. Jan Adams, the plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West's mother before she died, has been sentenced to a year in jail for drunken driving. Adams pleaded no contest to misdemeanor drunken driving last year.
According to authorities, the surgeon drove his car the wrong way on Interstate 680 on June 26, 2007, near Cordelia with a blood alcohol level recorded at .20 percent. He had two prior convictions for drunken driving in Los Angeles County in 2003 and 2006 and paid out nearly $500,000 in civil settlements.
In 2007, the 54-year-old doctor performed a tummy tuck, breast reduction and liposuction on Donda West, Kanye's mother and she died the next day. The Medical Board Of California were seeking to remove his license to practice because of multiple alcohol-related arrests, NME reports.
The official cause of death was heart disease and complications from the surgery.
