Vijay Singh Expected To Be Out Five Weeks Following Knee Surgery

Vijay Singh will be sidelined for five weeks after deciding to have knee surgery, the world fifth-best golfer told a golf web site Wednesday.

The Fiji native injured the knee three weeks ago at the Chevron World Challenge, according to Golf Digest.com.

He is scheduled to take part in the Mercedes-Benz Championship, which starts this weekend at the Plantation Course at Kapalua.

After participating in the tournament he also won in 2007, Singh will undergo surgery and should be back February 12, when he will play at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am along with his son, Qass.

The injury will also sideline Singh for the upcoming Sony Open in Hawaii, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported Wednesday.

The three-time major winner won three events in 2008, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and The Barclays in August and the Deutsche Bank Championship in September.
