Topics: NFLIrving, TX (AHN) - The Dallas Cowboys announced Wednesday plans to release their oft-troubled cornerback and kick returner Adam "Pacman" Jones, who registered a dismal season.

The transaction will become official Feb. 9, the first day NFL teams are permitted to make waiver requests.
In June, the 26-year-old Jones was reinstated to the NFL after a one-year suspension, appearing in nine games for the Cowboys.
Dallas traded for the troubled cornerback despite the suspension for the 2007 stemming from multiple off-field incidents while playing with the Titans.
He was expected to bolster the Cowboys' defense and special teams, but failed to register an interception and averaged just 4.5 yards per punt return.
Jones registered 31 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
On special teams, he averaged 22.1 yards on seven kickoff returns.
His poor performance has been attributed to a long lay-off brought about by the suspension.
In early October, Jones got involved in an altercation with a bodyguard, who was part of a team-employed security detail that resulted to a six-week suspension handed down by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Later in the season, he missed a seventh game due to an injury.
Jones also spent some time taking part in an alcohol rehabilitation program.
In his three-year pro career, Jones registered 147 tackles, six fumble recoveries, four interceptions and a defensive TD in 39 contests.
He also compiled 807 punt return yards with four scores and 1,803 kick return yards.
