Eagle River, WI (AHN) - NASCAR driver Scott Wimmer will compete in the charity Amsoil World Championship Snowmobile Derby Friday, Jan. 16.
Wimmer, who drove 23 Nationwide Series races for Richard Childress last season, will compete in the charity event, which attracts drivers and fans from all over the US and Canada.
The ride is a fundraiser for the families of Flip Merwin, who died in the race at the age of 28 in 2003, and Ed Devault, who never regained consciousness after his accident at the track and died 10 months later in 2002.
"Both Flip and Ed lost their lives to the sport they loved, it's an honor to be involved in such a great memorial" said Wimmer. "I really look forward to getting back to the Northwood's of Wisconsin to watch the greatest snowmobile race of the year; this has long been considered the Daytona 500 of iced oval snowmobile racing."
Fellow drivers Rich Bickle, Bobby Unser, Dick Trickle and Tim Sauter have also participated in the event in the past and snowmobile enthusiasts offer donations to ride along with the celebrity drivers over 50 miles of trail.
