Washington, DC (AHN) - Senate Democratic leaders are preparing to seat Roland Burris as President-elect Barack Obama's replacement in the senate later this week, it is being reported.
In the absence of massive Republican opposition to the confirmation, Senate Democratic leaders said they expect to swear in the former Illinois attorney general in the next couple of days.
After a controversial week, Senators Harry Reid and Dick Durbin said Burris would most likely end up being seated after Burris' lawyer met with Senate officials to assure his formal paperwork was in order.
There has been some opposition to seating Roland Burris, who was appointed by recently impeached IL Gov. Rod Blagojevich who is accused of trying to sell Barack Obama's vacated senate seat to the highest bidder.
