Stamford, CT (AHN) - A woman has been hospitalized in critical condition after being attacked at a friends' home by a pet 200 pound chimpanzee who had appeared in television commercials.

Charla Nash, 55, had been attacked by the chimp, Travis, after she went to Sandra Herold's house to help the woman get Travis back into the house. The chimp had used a key to get out of the house and after Herold was unsuccessful in luring the chimp back into the house she had called Nash.

But the chimp attacked Nash as soon as she got out of her car.

Authorities were called to escort medical workers to the woman so they could treat her wounds and transport her to the hospital. But officers had to shoot and kill Travis after the chimp attacked police and then opened the car door where the police officer had taken cover.
