Wahington, D.C. (AHN) - With energy costs and climate change on everyone's mind, the U.S. Congress is holding hearings on energy efficiency as it attempts to come up with comprehensive energy and climate legislation.

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce will meet Tuesday to hear testimony from several expert witnesses in an attempt to figure out what to do.

In a press release Monday the committee said it was critical to understand what it termed "the vital role of energy efficiency in achieving climate change and energy policy objectives."

The committee is chaired by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-CA).

During Tuesday's hearing it will explore energy efficiency policies that could be incorporated into climate and energy legislation by questioning several expert witnesses.

Those witnesses are:

  • The Hon. Philip Giudice, Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources
  • Tom King, President, National Grid USA
  • Rich Wells, Vice President, Energy, The Dow Chemical Corporation
  • Iain Campbell, Vice President and General Manager, Johnson Controls Inc. and
  • John A. Anderson, President, Electricity Consumers Resource Council

Tuesday's hearing is at 9:30 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building and is free and open to the public. For those who are not in the Washington, D.C. area, the hearing will be audio webcast at committee's Website energycommerce.house.gov.
