Washington, D.C. (AHN) - At least four companies have issued voluntary recalls of products containing peanuts or pistachios as a precaution over concerns of Salmonella contamination.

There have been no reports of illness associated with any of the recalled products so far, and consumers should return the products for a refund.

Candies Tolteca of Fresno, CA is recalling its 4 ounce Cacahuate C/Chile and Cacahuate c/Sal y Limon and its 7 ounce Cacahuate Con Chile. The candies were distributed in California and Nevada through Independent Distributors who in turn, distributed and sold to many retail stores, including Supermarkets, Gas Stations and Convenient Stores.

Pine River Pre-Pack, Inc. Newton, WI is recalling small packaged items of Pine River-Deluxe Mix Nut with Peanuts. Small packaged items were sold under the Pine River brand to various distributors and fund raising distributors in the following states: AL, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MI, MO, NC, OH, OK, PA, TN, VA and WI.

Ciao Bella Gelato Company of Irvington, NJ is recalling its 3.5 oz Pistachio Gelato Single Serve Cup. Its recall applies only to the 3.5 oz pistachio containers because they contain a diced pistachio nut supplied by pistachio grower Setton Farms that has recalled all products it produced after Sept. 1, 2008.

Publix Super Markets of Lakeland, FL has recalled its 6 oz packages of Publix Pistachios, because those pistachios were also suppled by Setton Farms.

Salmonella contamination poses a bigger health threat to children, the organism more easily sickens the elderly and people with weakened immune systems than it does healthy adults, but anyone can get sick from eating contaminated products.
