Detroit, MI (AHN) - Nearly 1.5 million GM-made sedans are being recalled to fix an engine flaw that could cause fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Monday.

Covered by the recall are Buick Regals made from 1997 to 2003; Chevrolet Luminas, Monte Carlos and Impalas made from 1998 to 2003; Oldsmobile Intrigues made from 1998 to 1999; and Pontiac Grand Prix built from 1997 to 2003. The mid- and full-size vehicles have naturally aspirated 3.8 liter V6 engines.

The recall followed GM's report last week to the NHTSA that hard braking in the said models may cause oil leak in the engine's exhaust manifold, which turns hot during driving. The heat could ignite the oil and burn plastic brackets holding spark plug wires.

Through the recall, GM would be able to fix the problem by changing the brackets. The change is free of charge.
