Toledo, OH (AHN) - A north Toledo man was killed by police on Sunday after he opened fire at his neighbors, believing that they had kidnapped and murdered his parents.

Richard Carr, 32, was shot dead by police after a standoff in his neighbor's home. According to WTVG-TV, he had called 911 to report that his parents had been kidnapped and killed by his neighbors, John and Janet Murphy. He then went to the Murphy home and fired at the family.

He held John Murphy hostage while Janet and their son Eric were injured but able to escape to another house. Two granddaughters of John Murphy were rescued by police during the standoff near Allendale.

John Murphy is in critical condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, while his wife and son are in stable condition.

The Toledo Times says Carr's parents are based in Michigan, and were out of town when the incident occurred.
