Tampa, FL (AHN) - Free agent Plaxico Burress has entertained a couple of offers this week, one from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite his legally embattled status.

The Bucs and the New York Jets are the two teams who have expressed interest in picking up the wideout, as he has been released by the New York Giants following the felony weapons charges he's been indicted for.

While the Jets have made no official statements confirming the reports, they are not denying them either.

The Buccaneers have admitted to preliminary talks with Burress, feeling him out to see whether or not he's inclined to think football with so much else looming over his head.

Burress will have his day in court in June, and is facing a mandatory 3 1-2 year sentence for carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Should Burress sign with the Buccaneers or the Jets, he will be facing a serious up-hill battle, having several major hurtles to overcome if he's to don any uniform next season.

Not only must Burress be cleared of a felony weapon charge, but he must be cleared of any felony at all to escape an NFL suspension.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has made it clear that NFL repercussions will be fast and furious for any players caught on the wrong end of the law, regardless of the circumstances.
