Former Oklahoma Gridiron Great Jim Owens Dead At 82

Bigfork, Montana (AHN) - Former Oklahoma All-American Jim Owens died Saturday at 82.

His son told the Seattle Time Owens was in poor health in recent years with heart and high blood pressure issues.

He passed away in his Bigfork, Montanta home

He earned All-American honors at Oklahoma at tight end in 1949.

Owens also coached the University of Washington. The Huskies dedicated a statue to him outside the Husky Stadium gates in 2003.

He coached UW for 18 years between 1957-1974. He went 99-82-6 overall with a 2-1 Rose Bowl record.

He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1982 as a coach.

Owens coached six years under Bear Bryant at Kentucky.
