Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday announced the recall of some hand sanitizer products that are less than sanitary.

Skin sanitizers and lotions marketed by Clarcon Biological Chemistry Laboratory are being recalled by the company because the products contain high levels of disease-causing bacteria, the agency said in a statement.

According to the FDA, recent testing found "serious deviations" with government-required practices. Analysis "revealed high levels of various bacteria, including some associated with unsanitary conditions. Some of these bacteria can cause opportunistic infections of the skin and underlying tissues. Such infections may need medical or surgical attention, and may result in permanent damage," according to the statement.

Clarcon makes skin sanitizers and lotions under several names. Those being recalled are: - Citrushield Lotion - Dermasentials DermaBarrier - Dermassentials by Clarcon Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer - Iron Fist Barrier Hand Treatment - Skin Shield Restaurant - Skin Shield Industrial - Skin Shield Beauty Salon Lotion - Total Skin Care Beauty - Total Skin Care Work

The Roy, Utah, company is voluntarily recalling the products. The FDA advised consumers with the products to stop use and throw it away.
