Vancouver, British Columbia (AHN) - Former San Diego Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf was given a Thursday ultimatum to appear before a Texas court for his drug and burglary charges.

District Attorney James Farren of Randall County, Texas said the 33-year-old Leaf should turn himself in by Thursday.

Otherwise, Leaf could be extradited from Vancouver, British Columbia, where he reportedly fled several months ago.

Leaf, who is facing nine indictment charges for allegedly using prescription painkiller medication, will appear in court this week, according to his attorney, Bill Kelly.

Kelly also said that his client has successfully completed a drug rehabilitation program while living in Canada.

Leaf's whereabouts have been eagerly sought since May 20, when the indictment charges were issued.

He could face a maximum of 20 years in jail if proven guilty on the felony burglary charge.

Leaf served as assistant football coach at West Texas A&M before asking for indefinite leave in November.

According to reports, the former NFL quarterback sought for a pain pill from a college player.

In October, Leaf allegedly stole a prescription drug Hydrocodone from a player's apartment.
