Oakland, CA (AHN) - AirAsia has come under attack by many both in Malaysia as well as America for its controversial move, sponsoring the overseas Oakland Raiders.

It is an interesting move, as AirAsia does not currently fly to America, nor does it have any plans to start doing so in the near future.

It also is a company in debt, owing Malaysia Airports Holdings 65 million Renminbi - which is approximately $9.5 million, which has lead to others wondering how they have the money to invest in a foreign NFL franchise?

The sponsorship deal is likely to be for about RM1 Million, drawing fire from some who believe the company should be putting money into more local teams.

The deal will put the Raiders shield upon the tail fin of the plane named "Commitment to Excellence," and that plane is expected to make at least one appearance in Oakland.

The Raiders have said that their deal with AirAsia is not exclusive, and will also maintain sponsorship with Hawaiian Airlines.

As Hawaiian Airlines covers different routes from AirAsia, they not in direct competition.
