Malaysia May Issue 55,000 Visas For Bangladeshis Workers

Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - Malaysia will reconsider on issuing visas for 55,000 Bangladeshi workers after the end of global economic meltdown, the finance minister said.

Malaysian Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah gave the assurance at a meeting with Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dipu Moni in New York on Saturday, according to a message received in the capital, Dhaka on Sunday.

Both ministers are in the United States to attend the United Nations conference on global economic crisis and its impact on development.

Bangladesh foreign minister said Malaysia has always been a preferred destination for Bangladeshi workers due to similar culture, religion and weather.

Ahmad Husni appreciated micro-financing system in Bangladesh and expressed his concern over the impact of climate change in the region.

The Malaysian minister also proposed to organize a seminar on the prospects of Malaysian investment in Bangladesh and vice-versa.
