6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Greek Island Of Crete

Chania, Crete (AHN) - A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has struck the Greek island of Crete at 12:30 pm, local time. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck about 120 miles south of Chania, Crete or about 275 miles south of Athens.

Crete is the largest Greek island and has a population of around 623,000 people. The island is a popular tourist destination with a rich cultural history. In 2008, over 2 million tourists visited sites across the island.

Initial reports say there weren't any injuries from the mild quake, which could be felt on land but was not strong enough to cause any damage to buildings.
