Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Two products intended for use by young children are the focus of a voluntary recall by the companies and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

About 400,000 drop side cribs manufactured by Simplicity are being recalled because defects with plastic hardware allow the drop side to separate from the bed. Infants can roll between the mattress and the side and become trapped.

An 8-month-old Texas child died in one such occurrence, the CPSC reported. The agency said in a press release that it had received 25 reports of the drop side becoming detached from the crib.

The cribs were sold between January 2005 and June 2009. The recalled model numbers include but may not be limited to: 8050, 8325, 8620, 8745, 8748, 8755, 8756, 8765, 8778, 8810, 8994, 8995 and 8996.

About 4 million inflatable baby floats made by Aqua-Leisure Industries, of Avon, MA, also are being recalled.

The CPSC said there had been 31 reports of float seats ripping, allowing a child to slip out of the seat and into the water.

The floats were sold in a variety of styles and colors, but a date between 08/02 and 07/08 is molded on the valves.

Products with the letters "NP" are not included in the recall.
