London, England (CNS) - British singer Cheryl Cole is being lined up to host the U.S. version of "The X Factor." NBC executives are said to be courting the Girls Aloud star to headline the new talent show.

The network's bosses are due to fly to Manchester in the weekend to see her in action at the live audition for the American version of Simon Cowell's top-rated show.

A source told the Daily Mirror, "Simon is on the brink of signing a deal to take 'The X Factor' to America and, if he gets his way, Cheryl will be its star."

"He thinks she has amazing presence and her down-to-earth Northern charm will appeal to the American public. She is also an incredibly beautiful girl."

Cole, who celebrated her 26th birthday with husband Ashley on Wednesday, won't be paid with the "millions" she is currently receiving in the U.K. because she is still not as well known across the Atlantic, but if the show becomes a success, it promises big things for her.

Cowell will not be appearing in the show as he is tied in contract with NBC's rival Fox, which airs the mega successful, "American Idol."
