Jackson Hasn't Had His Phil Yet: Will Return To Coach Lakers In 2009-10

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Phil Jackson plans to return to the Los Angeles Lakers for the final year of his coaching contact. The Lakers released the information on their website.

Jackson issued a statement.

"After consulting with Lakers team internist Dr. John Moe, I feel confident that I can gainfully pursue an NBA season with another long playoff postseason," Jackson said in the statement. "All things point to go!"

Jackson told ESPN Radio he was going to make a decision this month. He made the decision after medical check-ups.

The 63-year-old Jackson has had two hip surgeries and nagging back problems throughout his career. He has a special chair he sits on during games.

The Lakers have acquired Ron Artest, and some say the acquisition is due in part to owner Jerry Buss wanting to entice Jackson with a new challenge.

Jackson has won a record-setting 10 NBA championships. He led Chicago to six and he's won four in Los Angeles.

Jackson's final year of his contract is reportedly worth $12 million, another pretty good reason to return.
