Disgraced S.C. Gov. Sanford In Florida For Holiday Weekend With Wife, Sons

Palm Beach, FL (AHN) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford headed to Florida Friday morning to spend the Fourth of July holiday weekend with his wife and the couple's four sons.

First lady Jenny Sanford had retreated to her parent's home near Palm Beach and Mark Sanford decided to join her to begin trying to salvage their marriage, according to media reports.

Gov. Sanford had earlier held a televised press conference in which he explained his affair with a woman from Argentina whom he called his "soul mate." However, he also said that he wanted to patch up his marriage and added that he would have to try to "fall in love" with his wife again.

The weekend in Florida is apparently a step toward trying to do that.

The revelation of the affair has caused many people, including almost half of the state's Republican state senators, have called for Sanford to resign as governor. But Sanford has said he has no intention of doing that.
