House Collapse Kills Family Of Six In Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - Six members of a family were killed when the wall of their earthen house collapsed on them during a landslide in the country's northeastern Habiganj district on early Saturday, officials confirmed.

The victims were sleeping while the landslide occurred due to heavy overnight rains at Paniunda area under the district, local deputy commissioner and police official said.

The deceased were identified as Mubarak Miah, 42, his wife Asma Begum, 35, their children-Sumon Miah, 10, Amina Begum, 7, Ripon Miah and Nayon Miah, 2.

Heavy downpour triggered flash flood in low-lying areas of several districts including Netrakona, Sunamganj, Sylhet and Feni in the South Asian country on Friday leaving thousands of people marooned.
