Manchester, NH (AHN) - A camel has climbed Mount Washington in New Hampshire, the first dromedary to do so.

The camel named Josh completed the ascent of the 6,288-foot mountain in about six hours accompanied by his two handlers, two horses and a dog. The climb started past 3 a.m. on Wednesday from the base of the eight-mile Auto Road, which leads to the summit.

Tourists at the summit welcomed Josh upon its arrival and took photos of the animal.

Chris Butler, the owner of Josh, said they brought the animal to the highest point of New Hampshire after bringing it to Hampton Beach.

"We decided since we hit the lowest point in New Hampshire, we might as well try for the highest point," Butler told Necn.com.
