St. Louis, MO (AHN) - Third baseman Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino received record fan balloting that decided the 33rd and final roster spots for the 80th All-Star Game slated July 14 at Busch Stadium.

Fans of both clubs joined forces, creating the "Bran-Torino" campaign, combining the players' names to help get votes.

The effort paid off, as the Final Vote records was shattered with 68.6 million votes cast.

A significant increase of 43.5 percent from the previous mark of 47.8 million votes set last year was registered.

Inge outlasted Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler by collecting 11.8 million votes to secure the AL's last spot.

It was the most number of votes received by an AL player.

Victorino, on the other hand, edged San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval with an all-time record of 15.6 million votes.

It is the first All-Star selection for both players.
