Managua, Nicaragua (AHN) - Deposed Honduran leader Manule Zelaya has demanded his reinstatement no later than this week warning that he would take other measures against interim President Roberto Micheletti.
Zelaya issued the ultimatum Monday from the Honduran embassy in Managua, Nicaragua ahead of a second round of negotiations with representatives from Tegucigalpa to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica on Saturday or Sunday.
Zelaya told reporters in Managua that Micheletti must comply with the Honduras constitution and the call of the U.S. and the Organization of America States to return him power.
Micheletti and Zelaya tried to resolve the political crisis with their respective camps negotiating last week for two days in San Jose, where the former president was flown into exile on June 28. No deal was reached, however.
The Honduran military backed a coup d'etat against Zelaya on June 28 after the country's Supreme Court accused him of trying to amend the Constitution to extend his term.
