Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - After a highly rated VIdeo Music Awards and the resurgence of music videos during the late, late night hour with "AMTV," MTV is once again moving away from music with its latest original programming, the new comedy dating show "Disaster Date." But the music network could redeem itself with the pop culture spoof "Popzilla." Both shows are set to premiere next week.

"Disaster Date" is another entry in MTV's comedy series and dating series, as this one doubles as both. The show has people who have been set on blind dates seeking revenge on their friends by setting them up on disastrous blind dates with the help of an over-the-top actor. Each minute the friend lasts of the 60-minute date, they'll earn a dollar. That means they can earn up to $60 for their complete humiliation on national television.

"Popzilla" fits a bit more into MTV's former pop culture-skewering programming with its latest entry into animated and sketch comedy. The animated celebrity spoof show will serve up parodies of the latest entertainment happenings, and promises to target everyone, including Robert Pattinson, Heidi Klum, Britney Spears, and more.

"Disaster Date" and "Popzilla" will head a new early evening of comedy for MTV. The shows premiere Monday, September 28th at 6pm ET/PT.
