5.3 Magnitude Quake Shakes Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Honduras (AHN) - A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocked Honduras' Caribbean coast on Sunday. According to officials and first responders there were no reports of injury or damage.

Seismologists report the quake occurred off shore approximately half a mile into the earth's crust and 22 miles west of Puerto Cortes.
Seven people perished in a May 28 quake on Honduras' Caribbean coast, however that one measured 7.1 degrees on the Richter scale. In its wake 1,300 homes were destroyed, 9,458 others were heavily damaged. Loss estimates have been placed upwards of a $100 million dollars.
