Orlando, FL (AHN) - Basketball legend Michael Jordan's son, Marcus, could reportedly cost the University of Central Florida nearly $3 million by insisting on wearing his father's Nike brand instead of Adidas, which has a deal with the school.

The university currently has an exclusive $3 million, six-year contract, which expires in 2010.

The pact requires all coaches and athletes to use the company's shoes, apparel and game equipment.

The freshman guard indicated in an Orlando Sentinel report that UCF promised him that he could wear his father's Nike Air Jordan brand for the Knights' basketball team this season.

The impasse on this unique situation could affect the current negotiations between the university and Adidas on a new deal.

UCF also risks losing its current deal with Adidas, forcing it to buy its own clothing, shoes and equipment at full price for all of the school's 15 sports program.

Under the new proposed deal, the university would receive all of its merchandise free from the sports company. This is a complete turnaround from the current contract that provides items to UCF at wholesale prices.

At present, the current deal between UCF with Adidas represents about 1.4 percent of the school's Athletic Association's projected income this year.
