Bristol, CT (AHN) - The "Worldwide Leader In Sports" has fired analyst Steve Phillips. ESPN let Phillips go over a public relations nightmare concerning his extramarital affair.

Phillips was on a leave of absence after his affair with an ESPN production assistant.

Phillips admitted to sleeping with 22-year old Brooke Hundley, he said he is heading to rehab.

The sports network released a statement.

"Phillips' ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways," the statement read.

ESPN released the news after the start of Sunday's American League Championship Series Game 6 between the Yankees and the Angels.

The 46-year old, former Mets general manager, joined ESPN in 2004. He was promoted to "Sunday Night Baseball," this year.

Phillips broke off his affair with Hundley in July.

It's reported she called Phillips' wife and left her a letter describing details.

Other reports say she stalked his son on Facebook. Phillips wife filed for divorce last month.

Phillips admitted to another affair in 1998 when he was with the Mets.
