New York, NY (AHN) - American tennis legend Andre Agassi admitted in his upcoming autobiography that he used crystal methamphetamine in the late 1990's, according to reports.

Information on the American superstar's use of the highly-addictive stimulant reportedly first made public via the Twitter courtesy of a Sports Illustrated writer Tuesday.

Excerpts from the book, due out Nov. 9, will reportedly run in both SI and People.

In the various reports, the eight-time Grand Slam champion acknowledged using the illicit drug in 1997, the year he tied the knot to actress Brooke Shields.

It was also the same year that Agassi plummeted in the rankings, falling out of the top 100.

After the slump in 1997, Agassi bounced back the following year and entered the top 10 of the ATP rankings.

He went on to capture five Grand Slams and became the only fifth player to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Since retiring from professional tennis on Sept. 2006, Agassi has been involved in charity work.

He has also been at the forefront in educational reform throughout the country.

Agassi, now 39, also discussed in the said book his relationship with his current wife, Steffi Graf, former Grand Slam champion.
