Balmedie, Scotland (AHN) - Despite some local resistance, initial work on the new golf resort in Scotland being built by US tycoon Donald Trump got under way Wednesday.

Aberdeenshire councilors on the Formartine Committee reportedly gave the go-ahead for the preparatory work on the 1.1 billion pound (1.6 billion dollar) project.

The coastal resort, located in Balmedie, near Aberdeen in northeast Scot, will feature two golf courses and a hotel.

An estimated 1,000 holiday homes will also be constructed in the grandiose undertaking.

The proposal for the development was originally rejected by a council committee.

The Scottish government intervened and approved the proposal.

The estate's full master plan is expected to be submitted next year.

Meanwhile, the Trump Organization is exhorting efforts to acquire a handful of properties on the proposed site, but the owners are refusing to sell.
