Austin Dillon, grandson of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owner Richard Childress, had his qualifying time disallowed when his No. 3 Chevrolet failed to meet minimum height requirements in post-race inspection.
Chrissy and Michael Wallace, however, guaranteed some history when they both qualified and will become the first father-daughter duo to start a race in one NASCAR's major touring series.
"It's a little nervous because we've got this bet who's going to beat who and everybody asks if one of us is going to wreck each other. But we're not planning on it and if we do, it's going to be a really bad plane ride home,'' said Chrissy. "But having my dad and my mom there supporting me and being there before my race is a really big deal and it makes me really happy to know that they're there supporting me."
Chrissy qualified 27th and Mike Wallace secured the 33rd starting spot in Saturday's Mountain Dew 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Dillon's truck was sporting a special commemorative Dale Earnhardt No. 3 paint scheme and he was one of 13 drivers who needed to qualify on time. However, due to failing technical inspection he will not start the race.
Colin Braun won the pole for the race and will start alongside Terry Cook.
