Kansas City, MO (AHN) - Larry Johnson and the Chiefs agreed in principle that he would be suspended for two weeks, but he would still collect a paycheck for seven days.

Peter Schaffer, Johnson's agent, reported to The Kansas City Star that the original suspension would have cost his client $600,000.

"We have nothing signed. I don't think anybody is going to go back on their word. We've got an agreement that, in my mind, is a positive resolution that allowed all sides to move forward," Schaffer said.

The episode stems from Oct. 25 when Johnson criticized coach Todd Haley and his lack of football experience

. Later, Johnson used a gay slur to one of his Twitter followers. He also followed up by using a gay slur to reporters.

According to Schaffer, the Chiefs want to work out a peaceful resolution.

Johnson is signed through 2012, and the Chiefs might back off because of the episode and Johnson's performance. He has averaged just 2.7 yards per carry this season.

Johnson is expected to appear at Chiefs headquarters sometime next week and could presumably join his team Nov. 9.

There is no word if the NFL will also punish Johnson for his remarks.
