Eighth Blunder: 'Canes Shelled By Sharks, Drop Eighth Game Of Season

Topics: NHLRaleigh, NC (AHN) - Losing has been a trend for the Carolina Hurricanes this season, and after a 5-1 shelling from the San Jose Sharks Sunday afternoon, it seems endless.

Patrick Marleau scored a goal and an assist, Kent Huskins, and Brad Staubitz scored goals for the Sharks that sent the Canes to their eighth loss of the season.
Canes' Brandon Sutter had a snap shot at 2:48 to start the scoring in the second period.
San Jose answered back with three goals in the stanza, to hush Carolina.
Huskins, Staubitz, and Douglas Murray followed with goals for San Jose, who improved its record to 10-4-1 and achieve a 3-1 lead going into the third.
The Canes (2-8-3, 7 pts) had opportunities by outshooting the Sharks 13 to five in the last period.
But Evgeni Nabokov was stingy and turned away 25 goals for the Sharks.
At 4:20 into the fourth frame, Marc-Edouard Vlasic defeated Cam Ward with a tip-in for a 4-1 lead.
Marleau blasted a power-play goal on Joe Thornton's feed minutes later to seal the win. Thornton collected two assists in the contest.
Ward stopped 20 shots for Carolina, who is 1-6-3 in their last 10 games.
