New York, NY (AHN) - The USS New York, a naval ship whose bow is made from 7.5 tons of steel from the World Trade Center towers, made its maiden voyage to New York City from Norfolk, Virginia on Monday.

The ship docked at Manhattan's West Side after pausing at the WTC site. It will be open for public viewing until its formal commissioning into the U.S. Navy fleet on Saturday.
Cmdr. Curt Jones, the captain, heads a ship's crew, who included a number of volunteers from New York.
After commissioning, the amphibious transport dock will be transporting Marines and combat equipment to conflicts spots around the world.
