San Diego, CA (AHN) - Wide receiver Chris Chambers, who was demoted this week, was released by the San Diego Chargers Monday, a day after posting one catch for 20 yards in a win over the Raiders.

Chambers, acquired from the Dolphins in 2007 in for a second-round draft pick, will have to pass through waivers since the trading deadline had already passed.

Any team deciding to pick the 31-year-old Chambers would owe him the remainder of his salary this year, which is $2.4 million.

San Diego acquired Chambers in a midseason trade with Miami in the hopes of reviving the Chargers' passing game.

Despite starting in six tilts this year, Chambers struggled with the Chargers' passing game. He logged only nine receptions for 122 yards with one TD on the year.

With the departure of Chambers, who is listed at about 5' 11'', the Chargers' receiving corps, which include Malcolm Floyd, will all be standing over six-feet tall.

Floyd, who replaced the veteran Chambers in the starting lineup Sunday, is listed at 6' 5''.

In Sunday's 24-16 victory over the Raiders, Floyd had two grabs for 64 yards.
