Philadelphia, PA (AHN) - Chase Utley cracked a three-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the seventh, powering the Philadelphia Phillies to a 8-6 win over the New York Yankees in game five of the World Series Monday.

The Phillies closed the gap in the best-of-seven series to 3-2, though game six and seven (if necessary) will be played in the Bronx.

Utley has five homers and eight RBI in the series.

Raul Ibanez followed Utley with a solo shot of his own in the seventh, as the Phils knocked around Yank reliever Phil Coke, who was not exactly a 'classic' performer.

He was quickly replaced by Phil Hughes.

The Phils put plenty of pressure on Yanks pitching early, as Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez had run-scoring singles in the third for the Phils to make it 5-1.

Werth later scored on a fielder's choice.

A-Rod had an RBI double in the first for the Yanks, and Eric Hinske walked and scored on Johnny Damon's ground out in the fifth.

Burnett pitched on three days rest, and came in 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA in that situation.

He left in the third, however, after giving up the pair of run scoring hits.

Cliff Lee. pitching on four days rest, kept the Phils alive in the series, rebounded nicely after giving up A-Rod's hit.

Lee tossed seven innings of four-hit, two-run ball in another nearly dominant performance.

The Yanks were relentless, however, and touched him up for three more runs in the seventh on an A-Rod two-run double and a Robinson Cano sac fly.

Chan Ho Park retired the Yanks without a whimper in the eighth, but New York rallied with three hits in the ninth off Ryan Madson.

It produced just a single run, however, as Derek Jeter grounded into a Philly-made double play.

Although Johnny Damon singled, Mark Teixeira struck out swinging to end it.

'Tex' was just 1-for-5 and is hitting a miserable .105 in the World Series.
