Dallas, TX (AHN) - Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Ronald Jerome "Popeye" Jones was charged with driving while intoxicated after being arrested Sunday night in Richardson, Texas.

According to the police, Jones, 39, was pulled over in the 100 block of South Greenville Avenue after receiving reports of erratic driving, the Dallas News.com reported.

Jones reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test and sustained facial abrasions as he resisted arresting officers, who took him to the ground.

The police said that Jones, a player development coach for the Mavs, will not be charged with resisting arrest.

He was not present in the team's practice Monday.

Head coach Rick Carlisle and Mavs owner Mark Cuban declined to comment on the issue.

Jones, originally selected by the Houston Rockets in the 1992 NBA Draft, had two stints with the Mavs in his playing career.

Apart from Dallas, Jones also played with Boston, Denver, Washington and Golden State.
