Albuquerque, NM (CNS) - The new thriller "Let Me In" has kicked off production in Albuquerque on Monday. The film, by writer director Matt Reeves, will also be shooting in various places in New Mexico.

The film is based on the bestselling vampire novel of Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, "Lat den Ratte Komma In," and is a remake of the highly acclaimed Swedish film.

It follows the story of an alienated 12-year-old boy who befriends a mysterious newcomer in his small town and discovers an unconventional path to adulthood.

Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz will star in the film along Elias Koteas, Cara Buono, and Sasha Barrese.

"Let Me In" is scheduled for a 2010 release date.
