London, England (AHN) - Stamford Bridge has been home to Chelsea Football Club since 1905 but now, 104 years on, the name which has served it so well could be sold to the highest bidder.

In the latest example of English soccer being a commodity rather than a sport, Chelsea is reportedly seeking a buyer for the naming rights of its home.

Under the pretence of not being left behind in the race to be the number one global club brand, it is believed that Chelsea is actively seeking a ground sponsor.

In a token gesture to the fans the new name is likely to feature 'Stamford Bridge' somewhere in the name.

The news comes just days after Newcastle United announced they are looking to sell naming rights to its St James' Park home.

Rival fans of both clubs will no doubt be hoping Chelsea and Newcastle's move to sell naming rights, which some see as greed, will only serve to leave them in a position similar to Blue Square Premier Club, York City.

The club sold the naming rights to Bootham Crescent and now run out each week in the Kit-Kat Crescent.

The candy bar is a sweet treat, but some see it as a little weak as the name of a futbol stadium.
