Lambert Lies Down: New Mexico Women's Soccer Player 'Regrets' Actions

Topics: Sports, Sports ExtraElizabeth Lambert of the New Mexico women's soccer team pulled one BYU player down to the ground by her hair, and punched another Cougar in the back during a recent match.

The over-the-top display of physicality is being highlighted on Sportscenter, and ESPN also obtained a statement from the player at the center of the spectacle.
Lambert issued an apology Friday, saying "I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions. My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation," she said in a statement. "I take full responsibility for my actions and accept and punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration."
New Mexico lost the match 1-0 despite the "effort" of the junior defender from Lancaster, California.
