"Cheers" Writer David Lloyd Dies Of Prostate Cancer

Topics: EntertainmentLos Angeles, CA (CNS) - Emmy Award-winning writer David Lloyd, who wrote hit sitcoms such as "Cheers" and "Frasier," has succumbed from prostate cancer. He was 75.

Lloyd's most notable writing work is his Emmy Award-winning script for an episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" titled "Chuckles Bites the Dust," in which a news staff died after being crushed by an elephant.
He also won another Emmy in 1977 as one of the writers for the final episode of the sitcom. In 2001, he was honored with a lifetime achievement from the Writers Guild of America.
His recent works included the movie "Flushed Away," which earned him an Annie Award.
He is survived by his wife, Arline, his children, Julie, Amy and Douglas, and screenwriter/producer sons Christopher and Stephen. The family suggests donations be made to USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center, according to L.A. Times.
A funeral is set on Wednesday at the Holy Cross cemetery in Culver City.
