El Paso, TX (AHN) - A father and son have been shot dead by gunmen in Juarez, Mexico. Police found Raul Ramirez Alvarado, 35, dead inside a Suzuki car while Raul Xazziel Ramirez-Ramirez, 7, was found dead on the pavement near the car Friday night. Both bore multiple gunshot wounds.

According to police, the boy was visiting his father in the Mexican city notorious for its violent drug cartels when the shooting happened. When the father died in the driver's seat, his son got off the car and ran away but was shot in the back by the same gunmen.

The boy lives in El Paso with his aunt and uncle. He was a third grader at the Glen Cove Elementary School. His death makes him the youngest student from an El Paso school to fall victim in the ongoing drug cartel war in Juarez.

More than 2,200 people have been killed in the violence this year.
