Montreal, Quebec (AHN) - Satisfaction is high among city residents in Canada about the quality of life in their area and the services they get. According to the survey made by Environics Research for the Trudeau Foundation, 19 percent rated their cities excellent, 38 percent very good and 33 percent good - for a total of 90 percent.

Only 10 percent had a negative outlook on their quality of life or city services. It was broken down into 7 percent fair rating and 3 percent poor rating.

By province, urban residents of British Columbia registered the highest level of satisfaction with 68 percent rating their city excellent or very good.

The survey - which had 1,300 residents who live in cities with populations of over 100,000 - was made in October. It also found out that 82 percent of Canadians living in cities believer their city will still be a good place for the next generation, while another 52 percent are confident in the capability of their local governments to address the big challenges cities face.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation President Dr. Pierre-Gerlier Forest said in a statement, "As one of the most urbanized countries in the world, the importance of understanding the opinions and outlook of Canadian city-dwellers is paramount to creating a roadmap for the nation's success and vitality."

The results of the study was released in preparation for the sixth yearly Trudeau Conference on Public Policy in which leading Canadian and foreign exports on urban areas will tackle new ideas on challenges faced by cities. The conference is slated on Nov. 19 to 21.
