The family drama, available from Warner Home Video, was released on November 17. Based on the best-selling novel by Jodi Picoult, it follows the story of a family struck by tragedy in a story that Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal refers to as "?heartfelt and deeply affecting."
The movie tells the tale of the Fitzgerald family, whose lives revolve around oldest daughter Kate (Sofia Vassilieva), who has had leukemia since the age of 2. Though mother Sara (Cameron Diaz) and father Brian (Jason Patric) have run themselves ragged keeping the family afloat despite mounting medical bills and a juvenile delinquency streak in their neglected oldest son Jesse (Evan Ellingson), the most put-upon member of the household is youngest child Anna (Abigail Breslin), who was purposely conceived to be a donor of bodily materials for her sister. But when Kate needs a kidney transplant, 11-year-old Anna refuses and brings a lawsuit against her parents for the rights to her own body.
Filling out the skilled cast are Alec Baldwin as Anna's attorney, Emily Deschanel as one of Kate's doctors and Joan Cusack as the judge who hears the case between Anna and Sara. Nick Cassavetes, director of "The Notebook" and "Alpha Dog," helms the project.
Among the special features on both the DVD and the Blu-ray are an additional 15 minutes of extra scenes and a Digital Copy of the film available for download on most electronic devices. Exclusive to the Blu-ray is the featurette "From Picoult to Screen," which follows author Jodi Picoult in her process writing the original story and how the movie made the leap from page to screen.
"My Sister's Keeper" retails for $28.98 for the DVD and $35.99 for the Blu-ray disc.
