Fiji Police To Leave For Sudan Peacekeeping

Topics: WorldSuva, Fiji (AHN) - A contingent of Fiji police officers is preparing to leave the country for peacekeeping duties in Sudan.

Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokmuri confirmed the 11 officers will leave the country next month.
"They will be away for a one-year tour of duty," Sokomuri told AHN media.
The officers were accorded a farewell morning tea last week among friends and relatives by the Fiji Police Force at the police academy in Suva. They are: ASP Naulu Lutunacaucau (Contingent Commanader), ASP Henry Steel, ASP Jitendra Singh, IP Samisoni Naqica, SGT Manasa Tuisawau, SGT Viliame Rokobuli, SGT George Tavuna and PC Dharmend Singh.
Fiji police officers have been involved in peacekeeping duties since the first batch of 105 officers left our shores in 1989 for Namibia.
Fiji Police have been represented in peacekeeping duties to Namibia, Iraq, Cambodia, Angola, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Liberia, Sudan, Solomon Islands, Sinai and most recently to Darfur and East Timor.
To date, the Force has sent 1081 Fiji Police officers for peacekeeping regionally and internationally.
