Deerfield Beach Teen Intentionally Set On Fire Moved Out Of Intensive Care

Miami, FL (AHN) - A Deerfield Beach teen who was intentionally set on fire made a milestone in his recovery on Tuesday. Doctors moved the burn victim out of the intensive care unit at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital burn center.

Despite the move his medical team says bethe teen is expected to be hospitalized for several months. During his recovery he'll have to undergo several skin grafs and physical therapy. Officials are describing his condition as "guarded."

Brewer allegedly suffered a vicious Oct. 12 attack by five of his school mates. The group doused him with alcohol and set him ablaze. He suffered burns over 65 percent of his body and remained in critical condition for weeks.

Three of the five teens are being charged as adults with attempted second-degree murder. While two other teens are bing charged as juveniles with aggravated battery.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the incident began because Brewer owed another boy $40 for a video game. Things escalated with the boy stealing a custom made bike belonging to Brewer's dad. The Brewer family reported the incident to police, and the boy was arrested.

The next day, the arrested boy along with several other teens seeking revenge torched Brewer.
